Temecula History

If you look back at Temecula history, you will see that the railroads were flooded out and the stagecoach service just began between Temecula, California and San Francisco, California back in 1857.

The people of Temecula Valley had not yet begun to understand the riches that lies beneath their soil. Wine making as we know it, did not begin until the late 1960's and into the early 1970's.

Major wine production did not start here until the late 1970's. This was led in part by the famous golfer John Callaway at the Callaway Winery.

What Makes Temecula So Unique For Winegrowers?

Coastal breezes help keep the air temperature mild throughout the year and prevents the soil from drying out.

The granite in the soil help keeps the water draining which is needed for great grape growing.

Temecula Valley is famous for its wineries and vineyards for one good reason, we have over 30 of them in operation today.

Many of the wineries and vineyards in Temecula are competitive and have a number of awards on the walls prove it.

Some of the great California wines come from the South Coast Winery & Spa, Thornton Winery and oldest winery in our valley, the Bella Vista. The tourists appreciate our sunny climate while enjoying the fruits of these great Temecula wines.
