Now Your Etiquette Lesson On Wine Tasting:
While you're wine tasting, you will need to know some proper etiquette when attending any of these events.
There are certain things that are proper, and some that are not.
They include:
When arriving at a wine tasting event, allow the wine porter to welcome you and provide you with all the information they offer before asking questions. They will cover what is free and what fees are associated with certain samples.
You will be served three types of wine. A white, a red and a dessert. The number of each will vary, but you sample the white wine, then the red wine finishing with the desert wine.
Sample each wine, and savor the flavor. If there is one you do not like it is proper to leave it in your mouth, and then politely spit it out. Do not make rude remarks.
Read the notes provided on each wine and see if you can determine the flavors that are in it.
You can skip any wine you are not interested in. But be sure to go from the white, to the red and finally dessert wine.
Unless you intend on buying a bottle of the wine you are trying do not ask for more. This is considered very rude.
If you do not intend on finishing the wine in your glass, pour it gently into the toss bucket. You are not required to drink the entire glass you are provided.
As you move through the wines, cleanse your palette with the provided rinse water. In some cases, crackers are provided for this task.
Fees are generally associated with certain wineries. But the winery will normally include a free souvenir of sorts. They may also discount wine off its marked price. Some will not charge a fee, but require you buy a bottle of wine. Understand what fees there are before you attend. It is proper for two people to split the charge and share the wine tasting.
If you are attending with friends, be polite and do not cause a scene.
Never bring wine from another winery to these events.
Children should never be brought to a wine tasting event.
